TITLE: Resolution No. 2018-R-08 Transportation On System Post Project Maintenance Agreement Between Florida Department of Transportation and City of North Port, and Letter of Consent.

Recommended Action

Approve Resolution No. 2018-R-08 Transportation On System Post Project Maintenance Agreement Between Florida Department of Transportation and City of North Port, and Authorize City Manager to sign the Letter of Consent for the Florida Department of Transportation to use portions of City Property for the Multi-Use Trails.

Background Information

The City of North Port applied for a Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Grant through the Sarasota Metropolitan Planning Organization for multi-use pathways on both sides of US41, between Tuscola Boulevard and Ortiz Boulevard. The project was awarded funding by the FHWA. Design is near completion. Before the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) advertises the project for construction, an agreement obligating the City of North Port to maintain said multi-use trails is required.

The new multi-use trail will align with the pedestrian walkway lights recently installed along the south side of US41 between North Port Boulevard and Bolander Terrace and between Pan American Boulevard and Biscayne Drive. The proposed multi-use trails will connect to the recently constructed pedestrian bridges over the Myakkahatchee Creek. The proposed multi-use trails will not conflict with the planned US41 Linear Parking Project on the south side of US41 between Almonte Terrace and Landover Terrace and between North Port Boulevard and Bolander Terrace. Crosswalk striping, pedestrian signals, and ADA detectable warning mats are included in the scope of the project. No additional pedestrian walkway lighting, benches, trash receptacles, landscaping, etc. are included in the project.
