TITLE: Ordinance No. 2017-42, second reading, amending the Fiscal Year 2016-2017 Fire Rescue District Budget.
Recommended Action
Approve Ordinance No. 2017-42, amending the Fiscal Year 2016-2017 Fire Rescue District Budget.
Background Information
Fire Rescue is requesting an amendment to the FY 2017 budget for additional funding in the amount of $220,000 for increased costs incurred for outsourced Fleet Services due to staffing shortages and costs sustained due to Hurricane Irma. The amendment utilizes fund balance to provide the needed funding.
During fiscal year 2017, Fleet Management services experienced staffing shortages. This required additional outsourcing of repair and maintenance services for fire vehicles and apparatus. Also, wild fire responses during the year brought further needed repairs of fire equipment. The amount needed for these items are $183,610.
Hurricane Irma necessitated the City Commission to declare a state of emergency in September. This event created a greater demand for first responder services in preparation and follow-up to the event. The impact to the department’s budget is to both personnel and operating costs to provide the additional services. The amount needed for these expenditures are $36,390.
