TO: Honorable Mayor & Members of the North Port Commission
FROM: Peter D. Lear, CPA, CGMA, Interim City Manager
TITLE: Ordinance No. 2017-21, first reading, Amending Chapter 2, Article II, Section 23, of the
North Port City Code, Commission Compensation
Recommended Action
Continue Ordinance No. 2017-21 to second reading on June 27, 2017.
Background Information
At the February 14 and May 23, 2017 City Commission meetings, the Commission discussed revisions to the City Commission compensation. Commission directed staff to bring back an ordinance that will allow for the City Commissioners to be paid bi-weekly as all other city employees are currently paid. Ordinance No. 2017-21 allows each commissioner to choose their individual pay frequency with the choices of the currently monthly pay or to switch to bi-weekly.
Also discussed at the meetings was the amount that Commissioners will be paid in the future. The City Code states that any changes to Commission compensation will not go into effect until the next general election. This ordinance only changes the pay frequency. Attachment 2 is an ordinance that recommends changes to Commissioner compensation. Attachment 3 is the document that lists how elected county officials’ salaries are calculated.
