TITLE: Ordinance No. 2017-06, second reading, amending the City Administrative Code Chapter 4, Article VI, Community Economic Development Advisory Board Section 4-151 Membership adding a provision providing for a Sarasota County Commissioner to serve as an Ex Officio Non-Voting Member.
Recommended Action
Approve Ordinance 2017-06 and authorize the City Clerk to send a letter to the Sarasota County Commission under the Mayor's signature inviting them to designate a County Commissioner for appointment to the City's Community Economic Development Advisory Board.
Background Information
At the February 14, 2017 Commission Meeting the Commission Continued Ordinance No. 2017-06 to the February 28, 2017 Commission Regular Meeting for second reading. On February 24, 2014 the City Commission approved Ordinance No. 2014-11 establishing within the City Code a Community Economic Development Advisory Board for the purpose of advising the City Commission on business and economic development and issues of importance to the North Port business community and citizens.
Currently the board membership provides for a North Port City Commissioner to serve as an ex-officio non-voting member. The City of North Port is the largest City in Sarasota County both in population and land mass. Consistent with the efforts to facilitate economic growth of the City and recognizing the City of North Port and Sarasota County work collaboratively in the interests of enhancing community quality of life and economic development, to maximize these opportunities it would be helpful to invite one of our Sarasota County Commissioners to serve on our Community Economic Development Advisory Board.
