Recommended Action
Approve the Interagency Agreement between the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) and City of North Port on behalf of the North Port Police Department for Use of Driving Simulators at the Knight Trail Park Facilities (KTP) located at 3445 Rustic Road, Nokomis, Florida.
Background Information
The PatrolSim is a state-of the-art driving simulator which provides hands-on experimental training for emergency first responders, offering real-world experience without risk to people or equipment. The purchase of the simulator(s) was made possible through a $240,000 grant from Charles & Margery Barancik Foundation to the SCSO for the education and training of local law enforcement.
The SCSO has access to the driving simulators at the Knight Trail Park Facilities. SCSO is willing to provide use of the driving simulators and such related services to the North Port Police Department in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Interagency Agreement.
Under the Interagency Agreement, the City will have use of the simulators, but will always provide an instructor while City personnel are using the simulator(s). This Agreement has an initial one-year term with automatic annual renewals unless terminated by either party.
The City Attorney has reviewed the Interagency Agreement between the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) and City of North Port on behalf of the North Port Police Department for Use of Driving Simulators at the Knight Trail Park Facilities (KTP) located at 3445 Rustic Road, Nokomis, Florida, and it is legally correct as to form.
