Recommended Action

Discussion and possible direction regarding the Home Share Program and connecting home providers with workforce housing applicants.

Background Information

The Home Share Program addresses the lack of affordable housing by matching people looking for a place to live with homeowners who have space to rent. The purpose of the program is to provide rental income to homeowners who need assistance maintaining their homes while helping renters with the affordable housing option.

Our local Home Share Program is administered by The Sarasota County’s Housing Authority.

Staff has met with Ruth Shaulis form Home Share Sarasota, Valery Laboy, a founding board member of a Home Share program in New Jersey, and with Cathy Coomes of Home Share Pinellas.

Staff has gathered sufficient information regarding the program and is seeking direction on how the program should be administered within the City of North Port.
