TITLE: Authorize the Mayor to Sign the .gov Domain Registration Request Letter for the Economic Development Division Website
Recommended Action
Authorize the Mayor to Sign the .gov Domain Registration Request Letter for the Economic Development Division website.
Background Information
The Economic Development Division is currently working on developing its stand-alone website and would like to launch with a .gov name. The .gov domain is recognized as a genuine government or public sector organization minimizing the risk of misleading the customers the City serves by helping them to know they are looking at a legitimate website address. The .gov domain also aligns with the City’s mission to improve its security posture by making the site more secure.
The requests are made to the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), a federal agency responsible for managing the .gov top-level domains. They require the request to be signed by the highest elected official, in the City of North Port’s case, the Mayor.
Attached is a letter for the domain request. CISA provided the letter template, and Economic Development has utilized the previously submitted letters for the northportfl.gov and northportpdfl.gov domains from the Information Technology Division to draft this letter. The registration cost is $400.
