Background Information
The Department of Utilities has instituted a program to improve distribution system reliability and reduce unnecessary water loss by replacing infrastructure that has reached the end of its useful service life. As part of this program, the Department of Utilities is replacing the welded steel water mains affixed to bridges throughout the City in a prioritized manner. In the next phase of this program, the pipelines affixed to the bridges along Haberland Boulevard, Woodhaven Drive and North Toledo Blade Boulevard have been identified as in need of replacement.
In addition, Sarasota County has a Bridge Replacement Project on Ortiz Boulevard. In conjunction with this project, the Department of Utilities is planning to replace the watermain affixed to the bridge on Ortiz Boulevard. In order to achieve project savings, the Department of Utilities intends to have all four bridges designed by the same Consultant.
A Request for Letters of Interest (RLI) 2021-01 was issued on October 1, 2020, to the eight firms under Category 2 of Continuing Services Contract 2020-58 to secure professional engineering services to design, bid and provide construction phase services for the replacement of the water mains at the four bridges.
