TITLE: Discussion and Possible Action Regarding Reconsideration of Commission Board - Committee Assignments. (Requested By Commissioner Langdon).

Recommended Action

Appoint (Insert Commissioner Name) to Coastal & Heartland National Estuary Partnership.

City Commission Options

Option 1: Appoint (Insert Commissioner Name) to Coastal & Heartland National Estuary Partnership.

Pros:
- Prevents potential conflicts related to Commissioner Langdon's other commitments or roles, ensuring decisions are made without bias.
- Commissioner may bring new ideas, experiences, and priorities to the partnership, broadening representation.
- Ensures the community maintains a seat at the table during important discussions on conservation, water quality, and regional collaboration.
Cons:

- Commissioner Langdon may have prior knowledge, relationships, or subject matter expertise that another Commissioner may lack.
- A new appointee may need time to learn about CHNEP processes, reducing immediate effectiveness.
- Frequent changes in representation could be perceived as a lack of continuity or commitment by CHNEP partners.

Background Information

On July 17, 2025, Commissioner Langdon informed the City Clerk that the Coastal & Heartland National Estuary Partnership and the Economic Development Corporation of Sarasota County have conflicting schedules. Commissioner Langdon has requested an adjustment to the current Committee assignments.

Coastal & Heartland National Estuary Partnership: We are a partnership of citizens, elected officials, and resource managers working together to protect and restore water and wildlife habitat in Central and Southwest Florida since 1995. The CHNEP is part of the US EPA National Estuary Program.
