Background Information
The City of North Port has been awarded a Subrecipient Agreement with Sarasota County for the receipt and use of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds for the Hope Park Playground Renovation Project (CIP P25HPP). The grant will reimburse the City up to $300,000 for construction costs.
The purpose of the CDBG funds is to create and improve communities by providing housing, economic opportunities, and community services. CDBG funds are primarily used to benefit low- and moderate-income residents. CDBG funds originate with Housing and Urban Development and are managed by Sarasota County and then passed through to municipalities within the County.
The City of North Port's Parks and Recreation Department has been awarded funds for a complete replacement of the existing playground equipment at Hope Park. The original equipment was installed in 2015 and is aging, poses safety concerns, and is scheduled for regular replacement this year.
This is a reimbursable grant, meaning the City will spend first and then request reimbursement from the granting agency.
