Recommended Action

 

Approve the application to the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant for entry tools in the amount of $8,060 and authorize the City Manager or the Mayor, as applicable under the City Charter, to execute all funding documents after legal review, should the grant be awarded to the City.

 

Background Information

 

The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) is a national, formula-based, block-grant program administered by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP) with the goal of improving the criminal justice system.

 

The Police Department will use funding from the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant for entry tools. The City expects to receive $8,060.  Matching funds are not required for the grant.

 

This is a reimbursable grant, meaning the City spends first then requests reimbursement from the granting agency. The grant application was submitted August 30, 2022. Notification of award is expected in early winter 2022.

 

If awarded, the City Attorney will review the contract for legal form.
