Recommended Action

Commission approval of Resolution No. 2020-R-13.

Background Information

On April 23, 2007 the City Commission passed Resolution No 07-R-11 authorizing acquisition of certain real property along the Myakkahatchee Creek Corridor for the purpose of preserving and enhancing the Myakkahatchee as a Class I potable water supply and natural resource amenity.

Subsequently on January 26, 2015 Commission further addressed the need for acquiring these properties and approved the associated costs and funding for these properties.

The property located at 5891 Jessamine Avenue, is a single-family residence located on Tier II of the Corridor. The house will remain vacated once purchased and determination on what to do with the property will be made at a later date.

Financial Impact

The funds available from the DEP Consent Order dated December 15, 1997 are $508,781 (as of April 23, 2020). This is sufficient for the cost of the property of $212,000 plus closing costs from account 170-3036-572.61-00 related to Project P15MCC.

This land is being procured pursuant to Chapter 2 - Administration, Article VIII - Procurement, Section 2-403 - Exemptions, (a), (3), c, real property, real estate brokering, or appraising of the Code of the City of North Port, Florida.
