TITLE: Approve Contract Amendment No. 1 to Agreement No. 2014-13 for additional Design Engineering Services at Butler Park in the amount of $10,500; for a total revised contract amount of $78,000 with an original Agreement contingency not to exceed $6,750.


Recommended Action

Approve Amendment No. 1 to Agreement No. 2014-13 for Professional Design & Engineering Services for the demolition of the Concession building and relocation of the electrical services for the sports lighting at Butler Park. This amendment is between the City of North Port and Florida Transportation Engineers, Inc., in the amount of $10,500, for a total revised contract amount of $78,000 with an original Agreement contingency not to exceed $6,750.

Background Information

In December 2013, RFP No. 2014-13 for Professional Design & Engineering Services for the multi-purpose fields at Butler Park was advertised. Six (6) proposals were received on December 16, 2013. The Selection Committee met and ranked the proposals creating a short list of the top three (3) firms on January 8, 2014. Final ranking was held on January 15, 2014 with negotiations for the top ranked firm on February 6, 2014, and continued on April 28, 2014. Commission discussed direction for the uses of Butler Park in March 2014 and provided direction that multi-purpose fields were the desire for the park and not a stadium complex similar to Atwater.

On July 14, 2014 Commission awarded Agreement No. 2014-13 to Florida Transportation Engineers, Inc. for the design and engineering services of multipurpose playing fields at Butler Park. Upon review of the preliminary design for the Park, the Engineers opinion of probable cost was estimated at $1.8 million which exceeds the project budget.
