Discussion and possible action regarding Mandalas for World Peace.

Background Information

Vice Mayor McDowell requested this item be placed on the agenda.

The artwork titled “Mandalas for World Peace”, is a focal point at Warm Mineral Springs.   This artwork was a community effort and a donation to Warm Mineral Springs.  Unfortunately, over time the elements have taken a toll on the “Mandalas.” The “Mandalas” have fallen into disrepair.   Mr. John Cheer was the designer and creator of the original artwork and brought the level of disrepair to my attention last year.  Mr. Cheer is a part time resident and was unable to make any repairs last year for approximately $500.

Now that Mr. Cheer is back in town (only until the end of April), he noticed there is more damage than last year’s assessment.  Attached you will find his estimate and pictures.  You will notice there are some doves missing and pieces are pulling away from the background.

Since we are discussing remodeling/replacing the buildings at WMS, we need to include ways to protect the artwork prior to any renovations.  We may also consider a new location for the “Mandalas” at WMS, away from the elements.

I am inviting Mr. Cheer to the commission meeting with the hopes he will be available to answer any questions.
