TITLE:                     Discussion and Possible Action Regarding Support of House Bill 207 and Senate Bill 378 Adopting the Florida Scrub Jay as the Official Bird of the State of Florida

Recommended Action

Discussion and possible action regarding support of legislation in the Florida House and Senate adopting the Florida Scrub Jay as the official bird of the State of Florida.

Background Information

Currently, many citizen groups have spearheaded the campaign to adopt the Florida Scrub Jay as the official Florida state bird.   The Florida Scrub Jay is only found in Florida and within many areas of North Port.   There are two bills already working their way through the Florida Legislature, HB 207 and SB 378.  It is requested the Commission adopt a resolution in support of these bills.  North Port’s support of these bills will strengthen the robust campaign and encourage the legislature to approve.
