Background Information

Section 2-55 of the Code of the City of North Port, Florida relating to public comment, provides one method for public comment in-person at a commission meeting. During the COVID-19 declared emergency, other methods for public comment have been implemented.

At its September 22, 2020 meeting, the City Commission held the first reading of Ordinance No. 2020-37, removing public comment regulations from the Code and providing that they be adopted by Commission policy. The City Commission continued the ordinance to second reading for October 13, 2020.

This resolution provides regulations for in-person comment, online public comment submissions, and voicemail public comment submissions. It further includes the definition of communication media technology (CMT) consistent with state law.
