Recommended Action
Approval of Projects for 2025 State and Federal Legislative Funding Consideration.
Background Information
At the September 9, 2024, City Commission Workshop, staff presented potential projects for the upcoming State and Federal legislative funding cycles. Based on the workshop discussions, the recommended projects are listed below. Staff now seeks final approval for these projects to move forward for funding consideration.
Key Considerations for Funding Requests:
> State legislative awards typically provide up to $1 million per project, although higher amounts are possible. Priority should be given to urgent, shovel-ready projects or those nearing design completion.
> Federal funding involves stricter requirements, including bidding, permitting, and construction constraints, which can extend project timelines.
Recommended Projects:
State (Typically fewer requirements/limitations and under $1 million):
> Police Headquarters (staff working on a request for more than $1 million)
> Warm Mineral Springs Water/Sewer or Buildings
> Water Control Structure Improvements
> Price Boulevard Widening Phase II
> Bridge Improvements
> Water and Sewer Service Expansion
> Solid Waste Transfer Station
> Preservation of Environmental Lands
Federal (Typically many requirements/limitations and can be more than $1 million):
> Water Control Structure Improvements
> Warm Mineral Springs Water/Sewer or Buildings
> Bridge Improvements
> Water and Sewer Service Expansion
> Price Boulevard Widening Phase II
Legislative funding opportunities often have quick application turnaround times, typically one to two weeks from announcement to deadline. Each year, project eligibility criteria can vary, requiring swift decision-making by staff.
