TITLE: Approve Applying for, and Acceptance of, the Community Grant from the Walmart Foundation in the Amount of $2,500 to be Used for Shop with a Cop.
Recommended Action
Approve applying for, and acceptance of, the Community Grant from the Walmart Foundation in the amount of $2,500 to be used for Shop with a Cop.
Background Information
Shop with a Cop has been a huge success in helping underprivileged students from each of our elementary schools in North Port, who often go without exchanging gifts with their loved ones during the holiday seasons. School board staff identify children in their schools whose families are in need. Depending on funding, North Port Police Department is able to help 50-60 children each year. This event allows children to interact with law enforcement and other willing community members to create a brighter holiday season for local families and strengthens the relationship between the community and law enforcement. This encounter will hopefully have a lasting effect on them throughout their lives.

Financial Impact
The amount of $6,000 for the Annual Shop with a Cop Program has been budgeted in account number 001-2100-521.48-71.
Procurement
Funds if awarded will be used for purchase of gifts from Walmart.
