Approve the Application to the Fiscal Year 2024 Federal Community Projects Funding Request Program for Two Mobile Command Units, and Authorize the City Manager or the Mayor, as Applicable Under the City Charter, to Execute all Funding Documents After Legal Review.
Background Information
Congressman Greg Steube's Office began accepting Federal Community Project Funding requests for federal earmarks (also known as appropriations) for the Fiscal Year 2024 budget in May 2024.
City Management staff met and selected the following two projects for submission:
> Fire Rescue Mobile Command Unit: $1.8 Million (estimated)
> Police Mobile Command Unit: $1.8 Million (estimated)
City staff submitted two requests online, one for each unit, to Congressman Steube. The online applications were web forms and unable to be printed and saved. After submission, the Congressman's office combined the two online requests and reduced the request amount to $3,000,000. City staff did not receive a final copy of the application submitted to legislature.
As the legislative session progresses, the applications are presented and recommended to various federal Legislative Committees during the budget session as appropriate. If the appropriations request is approved, it will be included in the President's Budget.
If awarded, agreements will be reviewed for form and correctness by the City Attorney's office.
