Approve Contract 2020-57 with Garney Companies, Inc. in the amount of $577,653.00, with a contingency of $57,524.00, for a total project cost of $635,177.00 for the Myakkahatchee Creek WTP Transfer Pumps Upgrade Project.
Background Information
The Myakkahatchee Creek Water Treatment Plant (MCWTP) consists of a 4.4 million gallon per day (MGD) surface water treatment plant and a 1.5 MGD reverse osmosis (RO) membrane treatment plant. After treated water is disinfected in one of the plant's clearwells, it is pumped by the transfer pumps to the onsite ground storage tanks. The existing transfer pumping system is insufficient to meet the current combined plant design flow rate. Upgrades to the transfer pumping systems for the two surface water treatment trains will include replacement of the existing pump and modifications to the existing piping on Train No. 1 and the installation of a transfer pump and associated piping on Train No. 2 as well as the replacement of the electrical wiring and components.
Request for Bid No. 2020-57 for the Myakkahatchee Creek WTP Transfer Pumps Upgrade Project was advertised on May 15, 2020. A site visit was held on June 17, 2020. Four bids were received on July 15, 2020 and the bids were opened and read on July 20, 2020 at 2:00pm.
Staff reviewed the bids and Garney Companies, Inc. has been determined to be qualified for the project. Based on this information, the Utilities Department recommends award of Contract No. 2020-57 to Garney Companies, Inc.
The Contract has been reviewed by the City Attorney and is approved as to form and correctness.
