Recommended Action
Approve acceptance of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant, if awarded, from the Federal Emergency Management Agency in an amount of $46,445.45 and authorize the City Manager to approve and sign grant documents upon satisfactory legal review.
Background Information
Every year, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) opens the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program. The grant can be used for operations, safety, vehicle acquisition and regional projects which enhance the safety of the public and firefighters with respect to fire, EMS and fire related hazards. The Fire Rescue District prioritized safety equipment and determined a need for cardiac related equipment and training devices. The following equipment was requested through the application:
* 8 Pulse oximeters
* 2 Adult airway/Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) trainers
* 2 Electrocardiogram (ECG) simulators
* 29 Automated External Defibrillator (AED's)
The grant would pay for $46,445.45 and if awarded, the City would need to provide a match of $4,644.55.
The application deadline was February 15, 2021. The application was submitted on February 2, 2021. The City will be notified of the selection or denial of the award before September 2021. If awarded, grant funds will be available shortly after the award. The City Attorney will review the contract for legal form.
