TITLE:                     Approve the Memorandum of Understanding by and Between the City of North Port, Florida on Behalf of the North Port Police Department and the Desoto County Sheriff’s Office for the Appointment of Deputy Sheriffs.

 

 

Recommended Action

 

Approve the Memorandum of Understanding by and Between the City of North Port, Florida on Behalf of the North Port Police Department and the Desoto County Sheriff’s Office for the Appointment of Deputy Sheriffs.

 

Background Information

 

The City of North Port employs certified law enforcement officers and is a neighboring municipality to Desoto County, Florida. The North Port Police Department (NPPD) has a need, from time to time, to have some of its law enforcement officers exercise the powers, duties, and obligations of a deputy sheriff within Desoto County. The Sheriff of Desoto County is empowered under Florida Statute §30.07 to appoint deputy sheriffs.

 

The purpose of the Memorandum of Understanding is to outline the duties and responsibilities of North Port law enforcement officers under the appointment of the Desoto County Sheriff. 

 

The Memorandum of Understanding has been reviewed by the Interim City Attorney and is legally correct as to form.
