City Commission Options
Option 1: Adopt Resolution No. 2026R50, Adoption of the City of North Port Flood Plain Management Plan.
Pros: Ensures the City remains in good standings with the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Community Rating System (CRS), and its citizens are allowed to purchase flood insurance through the NFIP at a discounted rate.

Option 2: Do not adopt Resolution No. 2026R50, Adoption of the City of North Port Floodplain Management Plan.

Cons: The City may become ineligible for discounts of NFIP flood insurance premiums for its citizens.
Background Information
The City of North Port participates in the NFIP and participates in the NFIP's CRS, a voluntary incentive program that recognizes and encourages community floodplain management activities that exceed the minimum program requirements. These activities allow for the City to be rated by CRS and a discount applied to policies within the City limits of North Port.
FEMA’s Pre-Disaster Mitigation Grant Program, Hazard Mitigation Grant Program and Flood Mitigation Assistance Grant Program, requires that a municipality must have an adopted FMP to maintain eligibility for FEMA grants, this is also a requirement under the CRS rating program.
