Recommended Action

Approve acceptance of grant, if awarded, from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding Program in the amount of $182,229 and authorize the City Manager to sign grant documents upon satisfactory legal review.

Background Information

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement received a Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding

(CESF) award from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to be used to prepare for, prevent, and respond

to the coronavirus pandemic.

The City of North Port is eligible for $182,229.  The funding is a formula grant from the U.S. Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act originating from the U.S. Department of Justice.  A formula grant means that the funding allocation is determined based on statistical criteria such as population, crime rates, etc.

The City will use the $182,229 for:

                     Personal Protective Equipment

                     Message Boards

                     Light Towers

                     Drones

The funding application was submitted on June 26, 2020.  Formula grants are generally awarded as soon as the granting agency review is complete.  The City Attorney will review the contract for legal form.
