Recommended Action

Approve Amendment No. 1 to Work Assignment 2023-07PW with Consor Engineers, LLC for the temporary traffic signals at I-75 and Toledo Blade Boulevard and Sumter Boulevard in the amount of $82,038.38.

Background Information

On April 25, 2023, the City Commission, acting as the Road and Drainage District Governing Body, approved Work Assignment 2023-07PW for the temporary traffic signals at I-75 and Toledo Blade Boulevard and Sumter Boulevard in the approximate amount of $228,299.74.

The original work assignment was for the design of temporary traffic signals to be installed at the intersections of northbound I-75 ramps at Sumter Boulevard and Toledo Blade Boulevard, to maintain safe traffic operation while awaiting the permanent construction of the traffic signals to be completed by Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).

The consultant prepared 90% plans and submitted them to FDOT for a right-of-way use permit to allow the temporary signals to be installed. After discussion between FDOT and the City, a request was made to remove the temporary signal proposed at the northbound I-75 ramps at Sumter Boulevard and instead provide a temporary signal at the southbound I-75 ramps at Toledo Blade Boulevard. The result of this is that no temporary traffic signals will be installed at the Sumter Boulevard interchange, while both the northbound and southbound ramps will be signalized at the Toledo Blade interchange. FDOT confirmed that this change will allow a right-of-way use permit to be issued.
