TITLE: Discussion on Low Speed Vehicles (LSV).
Recommended Action
Discussion on allowing or restricting the operation of Low Speed Vehicles (LSV) and mini trucks as it relates to Florida State Statute 316.2122 on certain roadways within the city limits.
Background Information
Currently, the City Ordinance only addresses the use and restriction of golf carts within the city limits. LSV, by definition, is not classified as a golf cart. LSV and mini trucks are defined as any four-wheeled vehicle whose top speed is greater than 20 miles per hour but not greater than 25 miles per hour, including but not limited to neighborhood electric vehicles. LSV’s must comply with the safety standards set forth in state statute.
Florida State Statute (F.S.S.) authorizes the use of LSV and mini trucks on streets where the posted speed limit is 35 miles per hour or less. A municipality may prohibit the operation of LSV’s and mini trucks on any roadway under its jurisdiction, if the governing body of the municipality determines that such prohibition is necessary in the interest of safety.
Strategic Plan
Maintain the adopted level of health and public safety services.
