Recommended Action

Approve Subrecipient Agreement B-24 Between Sarasota County, Florida, and the City of North Port, Florida in the Amount of $166,120 for Biscayne Erosion Control and Authorize the City Manager or the Mayor, as Applicable Under the City Charter, to Execute all Funding Documents After Legal Review.

Background Information

The City of North Port has been awarded a Subrecipient Agreement with Sarasota County for the receipt and use of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds for the Biscayne Erosion Control Project (CIP R25DSI). The grant is contracted to reimburse the City up to $166,120 for construction costs.

The purpose of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds is to create and improve communities by providing housing, economic opportunities, and community services. CDBG funds are primarily used to benefit low- and moderate-income residents.

The City of North Port's Public Works Department is requesting funding for an erosion control project to prevent flooding near Biscayne Drive and Trionfo Avenue. This area can no longer be mowed, and the vegetation needs to be replaced with something permanent that will allow for free flow of water through the canal bordered by houses along Alam Avenue to the north of the canal and Trionfo Avenue to the south.

This is a reimbursable grant, meaning the City will spend first and then request reimbursement from the granting agency.
