Approve Contract No. 2020-20 with Spectrum Underground, Inc., in the amount of $122,538.50 with a contingency amount of $12,254.00, for a total project cost of $134,792.50 for the Lazy River Water Main and Force Main Replacement Project.
Background Information
Due to the shallow depth at which they were installed, existing water and force mains that run along South Tamiami Trail in front of Lazy River Village have been hit several times during routine swale clean-out. Staff has determined that these lines can be removed or abandoned, and flows can be effectively rerouted through existing infrastructure in the area. The existing section of 3-inch force main on the southwest side of US 41 will be abandoned and approximately 160 linear feet of new 4-inch force main will be installed via horizontal directional drill (HDD) under US 41 and connected to an existing 12-inch force main on the northwest side of the road. The existing section of 3-inch water main in front of Lazy River Village will also be cut and capped. This section of the distribution system can be adequately supplied by an existing 8-inch water main that runs under US 41 and connects to an existing 16-inch water main on the northwest side of the road. The new mains and connections will be installed deep enough to mitigate any future conflicts with routine swale maintenance.
