TITLE:                     Ordinance #2018-52, second reading, calling for the deactivation of the General Services Department and the establishment and activation of the Parks & Recreation Department

 

 

Recommended Action

 

Approve Ordinance #2018-52, deactivating the General Services Department and establishing and activating the Parks & Recreation Department.

 

Background Information

 

The City Manager’s recommended budget for FY 2019 proposed a department reorganization that included the deactivation of the General Services Department; the transition of the Social Services Division and Information Technology Division to the City Manager’s Office; and the creation of a Parks & Recreation Department to encompass Recreation, Parks Maintenance, Aquatics, and Administration Divisions. The City of North Port Charter, Section 5.04 provides that the Commission shall by ordinance activate or deactivate departments as deemed necessary for the efficient administration and operation of city government. Ordinance #2018-52 captures the recommended reorganization deactivating the General Services Department and establishing and activating the Parks & Recreation Department effective October 1, 2018.

 

The attached Ordinance has been reviewed and approved by the City Attorney and is legally correct as to form.
