Recommended Action

Approve the Bradenton Police Department Subrecipient Agreement for the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas Program (HIDTA) Between the Bradenton Police Department and the City of North Port, Florida, to assist with funding involved with narcotics related investigations and authorize the City Manager or the Mayor, as applicable under the City Charter, to execute all funding documents, after legal review.

Background Information

The HIDTA Program, created by the U.S. Congress through the Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1988, is a grant that provides assistance to Federal, State, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies operating in areas determined to be critical drug-trafficking regions of the United States. The HIDTA Program's mission is "to enhance and coordinate America's drug-control efforts among local, state and federal law enforcement agencies to eliminate or reduce drug trafficking and its harmful consequences in critical regions of the United States." At the local level, the HIDTAs are directed and guided by Executive Boards composed of an equal number of Federal and non-Federal (state, local, and tribal) law enforcement leaders.
