TITLE: Approve Utilization of the Sourcewell Contract No. 012418-TPM to Purchase Three Replacement Thompson Pumps for the Utilities Department in the Estimated Amount of $122,252.
Recommended Action
Approve utilization of the Sourcewell Contract No. 012418-TPM to purchase three (3) replacement Thompson pumps for the Utilities Department in the estimated amount of $122,252.
Background Information
The Utilities Department is proposing to purchase three (3) replacement Thompson pumps in the estimated amount of $122,252 described as follows:
> Two (2) Existing Thompson Pumps: Condition is aged and unreliable.
Proposed Two (2) Replacement Thompson Pumps: These Thompson pumps will be utilized for temporary pumping at lift stations during emergency events to prevent sewage backflow and overflows in the system should an interruption of power occur.
> One (1) Existing Thompson Pump: Aged, broken and staff was unable to obtain replacement parts. Therefore, this Thompson pump has been taken out of service.
Proposed One (1) Replacement Thompson Pump: This is a double diaphragm Thompson pump to be utilized for emergency repairs in the system, primarily watermain breaks.
Thompson pumps are especially useful in extremely wet and muddy conditions. Thompson pumps do not require priming which allows staff to complete their job tasks safely and efficiently without water filling their worksite creating potential for unsafe conditions. In an emergency such as a hurricane, Thompson pumps can be used at smaller lift stations as by-pass pumps to prevent sewer spills into the collection system.
