TITLE: Presentation of a Key to the City to Eugene Matthews and his Family
Recommended Action
Present the Key to the City to Eugene Matthews.
Background Information
This item was requested by Mark Frandsen and approved by the Commission on February 28, 2023. Mr. Matthews has been a true servant leader in our community for decades. He has been a business owner in North Port since 1971. He was the only North Port City resident to be elected to both the Sarasota County Commission and the Sarasota County School Board. He founded the North Port Boys and Girls Club and one of the City’s food banks. Around 2000, by City Proclamation, he was given the name “Mr. North Port.” Mr. Matthews has deep roots in the City and has a major impact on the development of our community.
