Recommended Action
Approve Contract No. 2020-11 Professional Engineering and Architectural Services for Design of Fire Rescue Station 81 Expansion and Remodel with Schenkel & Shultz, Inc. in the amount of $365,830.00.
Background Information
The current station interior is worn, dated, inefficient and in need of an overhaul. This facility was constructed in 1997 and opened in 1998. Station 81 is utilized 24 hours a day on a year-round basis by North Port Fire Rescue as well as AirLife 2 crews and by North Port Fire Rescue administrative staff during normal business hours. This project renovates the entire building to update fire station and administrative staff offices to address current and future needs.
Request for Proposals No. 2020-11 was advertised January 16, 2020. Four responsive, responsible proposals were received on February 14, 2020. The Selection Committee evaluated and ranked proposals on March 10, 2020 and Schenkel & Shultz was ranked the top ranked firm. Contract negotiations between the firm and appointed City staff commenced in April and continued through mid-July. The solicitation process began before COVID-19 restrictions and continued throughout with significant delays due to the CDC recommended restrictions.
The attached contract is part of project F17R81 funded by Surtax and Renewal and Replacement funds from both General Fund and Fire Rescue District.
