TITLE: Discussion and Possible Action Regarding Effectively Marketing the City’s Activity Centers as Adopted in the Comprehensive Plan
Recommended Action
Discussion and possible action.
Background Information
With the continued expansion of residential uses within the City, room for job creation becomes even more significant. The City currently has nine Activity Centers allowing for mixed-use development. This effort, directed by City Commission consensus during a workshop held on January 16, 2020, explores how Activity Centers could be more effectively identified and marketed to interested parties.
There was a consensus to start using the names of each Activity Center immediately with the development of a list of names to help with the transition. There was a consensus to direct the City Manager to create an agenda item within six months for a larger discussion on how that promotion looks for Activity Centers. There was a consensus to promote Activity Centers, one a month, location, businesses and surrounding neighborhoods to help educate.
In initial discussions within Neighborhood Development Services, Economic Development, and Communications, plans were created for marketing via social media, print and visual engagement, with the potential to create a stronger sense of identity within each individual Activity Center. The attached presentation outlines the information and approach that would be utilized for each Activity Center, using the Heron Creek Activity Center as an example.
