TITLE:                     Discussion and Possible Action Regarding Roseate Spoonbill Public Art Sculpture

Recommended Action

Approve not to paint the public art sculpture - “Roseate Spoonbill”, based on the artist’s recommendation.

Background Information

On April 23, 2019 at the regular Commission meeting, Commission approved the public art sculpture “Roseate Spoonbill” by Donald Gialanella. After completing the sculpture, the artist is recommending not to paint it pink. “The beautiful surface quality of the metal will be lost, and I am concerned the paint will cheapen it and make it look like fiberglass or at worst, comparable to a plastic pink lawn flamingo” he stated in an email to the Art Advisory Staff Liaison. The email was brought to the Art Advisory Board and the consensus from the board was to agree with the artist interpretation of the piece and to not paint it pink.
