Approve acceptance of grant, if awarded, from the U.S. Department of Justice Gulf States Regional Law Enforcement Technology Assistance in an amount of $150,000, and to authorize the City Manager to approve to sign grant documents upon satisfactory legal review.
Background Information
The Police Department is seeking alternative sources of funding for the purchase of license plate readers. The U.S. Department of Justice recently opened a new Gulf States Regional Law Enforcement Technology Assistance Initiative to help fund technology that focuses on support and exchange of information in the gulf region to reduce crime and illegal drug trafficking.
The application deadline was October 4, 2019. The application was submitted on October 4, 2019. If awarded, grant funds will be available December 1, 2019. The City Attorney will review the contract for legal form.
