TITLE: Economic Development Summit framework

Background Information
During the regular Commission meeting on November 22, 2016, Commission directed staff develop a framework for an Economic Development Summit with the purpose of helping Commission formulate its economic development policy by hearing from key stakeholders and members of the public. The Summit will also assist Commission in their discussion of the draft Economic Element Chapter being proposed as a new addition to the Comprehensive Plan.
The summit will be a forum to:
* Find out various groups' goals, and what the groups are doing to benefit the City of North Port from an economic development perspective
* Hear from residents their perspective on Economic Development.
* Gather input and feedback on the Economic Element Chapter being proposed as a new addition to the Comprehensive Plan from these groups
* Gather input and feedback on the Economic Element Chapter being proposed as a new addition to the Comprehensive Plan from the public
* Identify opportunities for collaboration
* Discuss Commission's views on economic development
Groups identified for participation during the meeting are the following:
1. Residents
2. North Port Area Chamber of Commerce
3. North Port Economic Development Corporation
4. Economic Development Corporation of Sarasota County
5. Community and Economic Development Advisory Board
6. Sarasota County
The concept of the summit will be a facilitated open format in which members of the above groups will be able to share their thoughts and comments on the draft Economic Development Element and their economic development priorities.
