TITLE:                     Approve the Memorandum of Understanding By and Between the  Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office and City of North Port, Florida on Behalf of the North Port Police Department for Investigations into Employee Criminal Activity, Use of Deadly Force, and In-Custody Deaths.

 

 

Recommended Action

 

Approve the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the City of North Port and the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office for Investigations into Employee Criminal Activity, Use of Deadly Force, and In-Custody Deaths.

 

Background Information

 

With the importance of ensuring the appearance of impartiality, fairness, and objectivity the City of North Port requests the MOU with the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) to be the lead investigative agency when requested by the City to investigate Police Department members alleged criminal activity, Use of Deadly Force, and in-custody deaths. This is a renewal MOU with the SCSO.   

 

The MOU has been reviewed and approved by the City Attorney as to form and correctness.
