Background Information

In order to expand transmission capacity, the City established a multi-year project to increase the size of the water main from the Myakkahatchee Creek Water Treatment Plant (MCWTP) to Ortiz Boulevard. Construction was completed on a section of 16-inch water main along North Port Boulevard from the MCWTP to just south of the Cocoplum Waterway bridge crossing in fiscal year 17-18 and, in fiscal year 18-19, along Tamiami Trail from Eager Street to Grobe Street. This phase of the project includes the remaining portions of water main necessary to complete this multi-year project, including a section of water main from the Cocoplum Waterway bridge crossing on North Port Boulevard to Eager Street and a section of water main along Tamiami Trail from Grobe Street to Ortiz Boulevard.

Request for Bid No. 2020-64 for the Myakkahatchee Creek WTP to Ortiz Water Main Project was advertised on June 19, 2020. Eleven bids were received, opened and read on July 24, 2020 at 2:00pm.

Staff reviewed the bids and the contractor has been determined to be qualified for the project. Based on this information, the Utilities Department recommends award of Contract No. 2020-64 to Spectrum Underground, Inc.

The Contract has been reviewed by the City Attorney and is approved as to form and correctness.
