TITLE: Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the Appointment of Deputy Sheriffs
Recommended Action
Commission approve the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the Appointment of Deputy Sheriffs.
Background Information
For nearly two decades, selected officers of the North Port Police Department have been appointed as Deputy Sherrifs by the Sarasota County Sheriff which allows them to exercise the powers, duties, and obligations of a Deputy Sheriff’s lawful authority throughout Sarasota County. Generally, North Port Police Officers who are appointed by the Sheriff, are assigned as investigators or members with certain trained skills such a scuba divers. The MOU outlines the purpose, procedures, use of authority, and liability between agencies.
The attached MOU has been reviewed by the City Attorney and is legally correct as to form.
