Background Information

The Economic Development Division is delighted to unveil the North Port GEM Award Business Recognition Program. The purpose of this initiative is to celebrate outstanding local enterprises that have chosen North Port as their home and distinguish themselves through their significant achievements or contributions, making them truly deserving of recognition.

The Economic Development Division is pleased to announce this quarter’s City GEM Award recipient, recognizing one of North Port’s finest businesses and highlighting the entrepreneurial spirit that drives our community. This quarter, we are honoring North Port’s longest-sustained service business, Barber Shop #1, serving our community since the 1960’s.

For over six decades, this barbershop has been a reliable staple in the City. Where offering quality service; building long-standing relationships; and providing a familiar place where stories, traditions, and the occasional questionable hairstyle choice are shared. Trends may come and go (and yes, even the mullet has made multiple comebacks), but their commitment to North Port has remained constant.
