Background Information
On November 8, 2022, Sarasota County residents will decide whether to extend the One-Cent Infrastructure Sales Tax that has been in place since 1989. Proceeds may only be used to invest in public projects such as parks, roads, sidewalks libraries and schools. The proceeds may not be used to pay for general operating expenses.
Also on November 8, 2022, a referendum election is ordered and called to be held throughout the City of North Port, Florida. The referendum will be held in conjunction with the City of North Port's general election. The purpose of this referendum is to submit to the City's electors a referendum question asking if they would support financing the Price Boulevard Widening Project through the issuance of bonds in one or more series, payable from the proceeds of a voter approved County-wide One-Cent Sales Tax.
Ordinance No. 2022-12 has been reviewed by the City Attorney and is legally correct as to form. Bond counsel and the City Manager have approved the proposed ballot language.
