Recommended Action

Approve the Florida Forest Service Cooperative Equipment Loan Agreement.

Background Information

The Florida Forest Service (formerly the Division of Forestry) handles the dispensation of federal surplus equipment from the Department of Defense and other agencies. They lease this equipment for no cost to local "cooperators" including those helping to manage the threat of wildfire through direct prescribed fire and other fire hazard mitigation activities.

The City of North Port participates in a Cooperative Equipment Loan Agreement with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Florida Forest Service.  While the existing agreement automatically renews from year to year, the Florida Forest Service asked the City to execute the updated version of their form and return to the State for final signature.

The City of North Port is currently utilizing five (5) 2.5ton Cargo Trucks converted to Brush Trucks along with a 300-gallon skid tank as part of the existing agreement dating back to 2009.
