TITLE:                     Authorize City Manager to Submit the Price Boulevard Waterway  and Myakkahatchee Bridge Hardening Improvements Project and the Fixed Weir 123 Project for Consideration in the Fiscal Year 2024 State of Florida Appropriations Request

Recommended Action

Approve City Manager authority to submit projects under consideration for Fiscal Year 2024 State of Florida Appropriations Request.

Background Information

Annually, staff evaluates projects to submit to House and Senate members for funding consideration in the annual State Budget. These projects generally have matching funds; a lower chance of obtaining grant funds and align with the State’s current initiatives, such as:

Ø                     Water quality improvements

Ø                     Economic development

Ø                     Community resiliency

This year, management staff selected the following two projects for consideration:

Ø                     Price Boulevard Waterway and Myakkahatchee Bridge Hardening Improvements: $15 million

Ø                     Reconstruction of Fixed Weir 123 (Location: MacCaughey Waterway just south of Snover Waterway): $350,000

Requests are reviewed and submitted by members of the House and Senate for their consideration.  If the request is supported, the request is then heard and recommended by different Legislative Committees during the legislative session.  If the appropriations request is approved, it will be included in the Governor’s Budget on July 1, 2023.
