Recognition of Award Received by the Parks & Recreation Department from the National Recreation and Park Association Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies.
Background Information
The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) Commission for Accreditation of Parks and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) is the only national accreditation for parks and recreation agencies across the country. Accreditation indicates that an agency has met rigorous standards related to the management and administration of facilities, resources, programs, safety and services. There are currently 176 accredited agencies in the United States, of those 24 are in the State of Florida.
CAPRA approved accreditation for the City of North Port Parks & Recreation Department through the fall of 2024 at its meeting on September 24, 2019 in Baltimore, Maryland. The accreditation process is based on an agency's compliance with 151 standards, of which an agency must comply with all 37 fundamental standards and 103 (90%) of the 144 non-fundamental standards upon initial accreditation. The Parks & Recreation Department began this process by submitting an initial application in February of 2018 and the on-site evaluation by the CAPRA visitation team was conducted in June of 2019. The visitation team had the following findings at the conclusion of the evaluation:
A) 148 of 151 standards met
B) Number of fundamental standards not met: 0
C) Number of non-fundamental standards not met: 3
Moving forward, the Parks & Recreation Department must submit an annual report documenting that the standards are being upheld before being reviewed again in five years. In the Spring of 2...
