TO:                                           Honorable Mayor & Members of the North Port Commission

FROM:                      Peter D. Lear, CPA, CGMA, City Manager

TITLE:                     Approval of updated Statewide Mutual Aid Agreement (SMAA) between the City of North Port and the Florida Division of Emergency Management.

Recommended Action

Approve the updated agreement by the Mayor/City Commission for the continued inclusion in the statewide mutual aid with the Florida Division of Emergency Management.

Background Information

In July of 2001 the City of North Port entered into an agreement adopting the statewide mutual aid agreement by Resolution No. 01-R-44.  The Statewide Mutual Aid Agreement (SMAA) has been updated for 2018.  To make sure that all counties (and jurisdictions) are working under the most recent version of the agreement, the Florida Division of Emergency Management is requesting that all counties (and jurisdictions) update their agreement to the 2018 version.

This agreement with the State of Florida maintains the ability to receive and offer mutual aid during disasters that may exceed the City of North Port’s ability to respond to and recover from.

The City Attorney has reviewed to form and content.

Strategic Plan

Financially Responsible City Providing Quality Municipal Services.

Financial Impact

None for continued agreement.  However, without the agreement in place, there would be no mechanism in place for reimbursement of costs incurred.

Procurement

None.
