TITLE: Discussion and Possible Action Regarding the Art Advisory Board's Recommendation for a Mural on the Back Wall of the Customer Care Center on the First Floor in City Hall.
Recommended Action
Discussion and possible action regarding the Art Advisory Board's recommendation for a mural on the back wall of the Customer Care Center on the first floor in City Hall.
Background Information
In August 2021 the Department of Neighborhood Development Services staff inquired if the Art Advisory Board would be interested in painting a mural on the back wall of the Customer Care Center on the first floor of City Hall. The mural would provide a welcoming atmosphere for residents, contractors and other members of the public sitting or walking through the first-floor lobby. The Staff Liaison presented the Department of Neighborhood Development Services staff request to the Art Advisory Board during their regular meeting on September 14, 2021.
After a brief discussion, there was a consensus by the Art Advisory Board to paint a mural and support the location. Art Advisory Board Members Tony Kelly and Dee Gozion volunteered to support the project by providing artistic services and donating paint supplies.
In December 2021 Mr. Kelly presented a proposal for the mural's placement with look and feel for the image, which was supported unanimously by the Art Advisory Board. The Art Advisory Board subsequently communicated their recommendation on the proposed project to Commission via their memorandum dated December 27, 2021. The Facilities Maintenance Division staff have reviewed the proposed mural and have no concerns.
Commissioner Luke has requested that the Art Advisory Board's recommendation be brought to Commission for discussion.
