TITLE: Discussion and Possible Action (Due to Commissioner Scheduling Conflicts) Regarding the Motion made on July 21, 2026 for Agenda Item 26-0985 Directing the City Manager to Schedule a Special Meeting in August to Act on the Ordinance Adopting a Moratorium on Data Centers and to Determine whether the Special Meeting should be held August 19, 20, or 25th or to Place the Item on the September 8 Commission Regular Meeting
Recommended Action
Option 1: To Rescind the Motion made on July 21, 2026 Regarding Agenda Item 26-0985 to Schedule a Special Meeting in August and Direct the City Attorney to Create an Agenda Item for first reading of the Data Center Moratorium for the September 8, 2026 Commission Meeting.
City Commission Options
Option 1: To Rescind the Motion made on July 21, 2026 Regarding Agenda Item 26-0985 to Schedule a Special Meeting in August and Direct the City Attorney to Create an Agenda Item for first reading of the Data Center Moratorium for the September 8, 2026 Commission Meeting.
* Pros: Allows for all Commissioners to be present for discussion and action regarding the Ordinance.
* Cons: Delays the Adoption of the Ordinance.
Option 2: To Direct the City Attorney to Create an Agenda Item for first reading of the Data Center Moratorium for a Special Meeting on (select one: August 19, August 20, or August 25) .
* Pros: Expedites the Adoption of the Ordinance.
* Cons: One Commissioner will be unable to attend the meeting.
Background Information
On July 21, 2026 a motion was made by Commissioner Stokes, seconded by Commissioner Duval, to direct the City Manager to schedule a special meeting in August to act on the ordinance adopting the moratorium on data centers. The motion carried with Vice Mayor Langdon dissenting.
