Background Information
On July 14, 2022, the City Commission of the City of North Port, Florida, and the Board of County Commissioners of Charlotte County held a joint meeting to discuss a future interchange on Interstate 75 located within the City of North Port.
The City of North Port and Charlotte County share a common interest in supporting the Florida Department of Transportation in constructing interchanges on Interstate 75 at North Yorkshire Street and on Interstate 75 at North Raintree Boulevard. The Florida Department of Transportation has encouraged both Commissions to work together and demonstrate mutual support for the interchanges that will result in economic growth and development in the City and alleviate traffic congestion in Charlotte County at the King's Highway interchange.
Future interchanges will positively impact the economic growth and development of the City's Activity Center 6. They will positively resolve the severe traffic congestion in Charlotte County at the existing King's Highway Interchange.
The joint resolution was approved by Charlotte County at their November 22, 2022 meeting. Resolution No. 2022-R-69 has been reviewed by the City Attorney and is legally correct as to form.
