Recommended Action
Approve the National Emergency Dislocated Worker Grant Worksite Agreement with Suncoast Workforce Board, Inc. dba CareerSource Suncoast.
Background Information
The National Emergency Dislocated Worker Grant agreement is designed to operate in accordance with the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act grants awarded to CareerSource Suncoast (CSS). This grant aids in recovery following a declared emergency, in this case, Hurricane Ian.
During the City Commission Regular Meeting on April 25, 2023, the City Commission approved a Worksite Agreement with CSS that expired on September 30, 2024. Through this Agreement, the City received over 1,500 hours of work, valued at approximately $50,000 at no cost to the City.
Upon approval of the attached Worksite Agreement, the Grant Agreement will continue to provide the City of North Port access to the workforce displaced by Hurricane Ian. Through this Agreement, CSS will provide the funds to employ displaced workers to assist the City of North Port with recovery efforts at no cost to the City. In addition, the grant provides the ability to acquire the equipment necessary for the displaced workers to complete the identified recovery tasks.
The Department of Public Works seeks to continue to utilize the resources available via this grant to provide labor for damaged tree root removal and tree replanting, groundwork, debris removal and similar potential projects. Additionally, if approved, the grant benefits will be available to all Departments within the City as applicable to the terms and conditions of the Agreement.
